Tennis participation on the rise in U.S.
Those within the tennis industry have worked diligently over the years to grow the sport, with an increasing focus on youth participation in the last decade to develop the next generation of players, fans and perhaps even future champions.
That work produced positive results again in 2014, with overall and youth participation increasing, according to a recent report by the Tennis Industry Association.
According to the TIA, overall tennis participation in the United States increased 1 percent from 2013 to 2014, to 17.9 million. That increase was driven by a growing number of youth players – including a 4 percent increase among those 6 to 12 years of age, to 2.14 million, and a 9 percent increase among those 13 to 18, to 2.23 million.
The report also indicated that 14.6 million Americans who are not currently tennis players have expressed an interest in participating in the sport.
